October
Can it truly be October already? The Material Girls collaboration with Articulation is almost at an end. We have finished our Exhibitions in this country. There are still a couple of talks about the project to come. Your attendance would be welcome at the Romford Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild, this coming Saturday, 13th October, where you will be able to meet Material Girls Members, learn about the project and see the pieces themselves. After these commitments, the UK panels will accompany their Canadian counterparts on their return to Canada, where they will go on Exhibition.
We are already moving forward, embracing a new topic. It also means new ventures for two of our Members elsewhere. Our next project is entitled: "Tales and Textiles" - ideas already springing forth, with a wide variety of subject matter chosen. This work will be exhibited at Textiles in Focus in 2014! Keep company with us on the blog as we share our working towards completion of this project.

A Lot of Thank You's and What's Next?
The Material Girls- Textiles On the Hill- Bridging Waters exhibition is over! I think we can say it was a success, there was a steady stream of visitors on both days. Saturday a group of ladies travelled from Suffolk and stayed all day. Vanessa from Southend on Sea stayed all day on Saturday and enjoyed the demonstrations so much she came back and stayed for most of Sunday! Apart from those interested in Textiles we had visitors who dropped by to sit at tables outside in the sun and enjoy the home baked cakes. They wandered in and looked at the exhibition and shops too.
Horndon were
hosting visitors from their French twin town and many of them came in for a look. Not only those of a certain age the young
came to view too! It was really special to have Donna and her husband join us from Canada, Donna is a member of Articulation! So this weekend the Bridging Waters exhibition were well and truly
internationally viewed.
We must thank our demonstrators Helen Wilson, Sara Impey, Lynda Monk, Janette Bright, Juliet Bryson and The Material Girls own Beverley, Chris and Margaret. We also thank Denise from Craft Arena for bringing her shop, without their support and generosity the weekend would not have been as successful or entertaining! So thank you. We must also say thank you to Jane and Peter for their help in arranging the use of the screens, liaising with 'The Swan' and everything else they did. The Material Girls are lucky that we have the support of our families who always are there to help out with the climbing of ladders or carrying of heavy boxes etc. we really appreciate it.
And so What's Next......... the whole exhibition will be at Maldon, Essex (more information posted here very soon) this will be the LAST opportunity to view the work before it travels to Canada where it will be exhibited in various galleries from coast to coast!

Private View -Thames Barges
Last night was the private view of 'Bridging Waters' a collaboration of work between the Canadian Textile Group Articulation and the Material Girls. It can be called a great success, the exhibition received good publicity from the local press and we were supported not only by family and friends but also by local councillor Andrew Curtin and the Deputy Mayor of Havering, Lynden Thorpe.
Over the next few days more images will be posted but to keep you going here's a taster of Thames Barges by the Material Girls.

February - Nearly There!
Today was our last meeting before setting up our Exhibition next week. So much to discuss and plan. Everything is almost ready, a few last minute pieces to prep. The work has arrived from our Canadian partners, Articulation Textile Group. Lots of oooohs and aaahhhs as we all viewed it for the first time.
Our own work is a riot of colour, technique and interpretation. The 3d pieces were seen today in their entirety, its so diverse how everyone interprets the theme of "water" for these. And the flotilla which was assembled is also something I'm sure will make a very eye catching display.
As well as discussing last minute arrangement, who is bringing what and when... we also had a visit from a photographer, taking photos to support an article in the local press, so look out for that.
See our poster below for full information - but this little lady will be waiting to see you all.
